Nature Inspired Schedulers in Computational Grids

چکیده
ARTICLE 1. Introduction Computational Grids (CGs) are a natural extension of classical distributed systems. CGs are expected to leverage unprecedented larger computing capacities by virtually joining together geographically distributed resources at large scale. To achieve this objective, the design of ecient Grid schedulers that map and allocate tasks and applications onto Grid resources is a key issue. In fact, CGs introduce new complexities to the scheduling problem making it even more challenging for the design of ecient schedulers. In this article, we illustrate how various nature inspired heuristic and meta-heuristic methods can be used to design ecient schedulers in CGs. Such heuristic and meta-heuristics include ad hoc methods, local search, population-based and hybrid approaches. In using these methods for designing ecient Grid schedulers we take into account the new characteristics of CGs and tackle the Grid scheduling as a family of problems.

Double auction-inspired meta-scheduling of parallel applications on global grids
Meta-schedulers map jobs to computational resources that are part of a grid, such as clusters, that in turn have their own local job schedulers. Existing Grid meta-schedulers either target system-centric metrics, such as utilization and throughput, or prioritize applications based on utility metrics provided by the users. The system-centric approach gives less importance to users’ individual ut...

Inspired by the electrical power grid’s ability to provide a pervasive access to power in a consistent and dependable manner, computer scientists began exploring the design and development of an analogous infrastructure called the computational power grid for the 21 century network computing. At present, such computational grids enable sharing, selection, and aggregation of geographically distr...

Human beings have always made their tools and instruments they need using patterns in nature. Mimicking nature has become the foundation of a new science called Biomimetics. In the present article, multiple forms and levels in nature were utilized to design and create a mouse. The rivers are a good source for choosing the shape of a mouse with lots of stones abraded through the centuries which ...
متن کاملModern approaches to modeling user requirements on resource and task allocation in hierarchical computational grids
Tasks scheduling and resource allocation are among crucial issues in any large scale distributed system, including Computational Grids (CGs). These issues are commonly investigated using traditional computational models and resolution methods that yield near-optimal scheduling strategies. One drawback of such approaches is that they cannot effectively tackle the complex nature of CGs. On the on...
متن کاملSelf-tuning job scheduling strategies for the resource management of HPC systems and computational grids
In this thesis we develop and study self-tuning job schedulers for resource management systems. Such schedulers search for the best solution among the available scheduling alternatives in order to improve the performance of static schedulers. In two domains of real world job scheduling this concept is implemented. First of all, we study the scheduling in resource management software for high pe...
